Kenzō Takada Passes Away
Legendary designer Kenzō Takada passed away this week due to complications from COVID19 at 81 years old. The eponymous founder of Kenzo which is currently owned by LVMH, the Japanese-French fashion designer started the label in 1970 and retired in 1999 to pursue other creative projects in art, costume, and furniture design. A New York Times review of one of his earliest fashion shows in 1973 hailed him as “one of the most imaginative designers in the world”. [REUTERS]

Glenn Martens to Front Diesel
Y/Project frontman Glenn Martens who has already made a splash with his slashed, V-front jeans announced this week his new job as the creative director of Diesel. Only the Brave CEO Renzo Rosso, who owns Diesel, has aligned with the Belgian designer in the past awarding him the ANDAM prize in 2017 and bringing him on in 2018 for the Red Tag Project fashion show. In his new role, Glenn will overview the global brand’s style, communications, interior design, and more in general its overall creativity. Born in 1983, Glenn Martens is a Belgian designer who started his career at Jean Paul Gaultier, and since 2013 he is the Creative Director of Parisian brand Y/Project. In 2017 Glenn won the ANDAM award (of which OTB is one of the historical supporters), and in 2018 Glenn was one of the guest designers of Diesel’s experimental capsule series Diesel Red Tag. Thus Renzo Rosso, founder of Diesel: “Ever since I met Glenn in 2017 I saw his experience grow and his talent cement. Working with him on Diesel Red Tag, going through our company’s archives and heritage together, seeing him interact with the brand, brought us closer, and I am happy to now see him take the helm of Diesel, where he will marry his design vision with the iconoclastic values of this unique brand”. “I am extremely honored and excited to join the Diesel family. Virgil Abloh Joins Fashion Scholarship Fund Governing Board
Off-White and Louis Vuitton designer Virgil Abloh will join the Board of Governors of national non-profit, Fashion Scholarship Fund. The Fashion Scholarship Fund supports the budding careers of fashion students in all sectors of the industry and Abloh will bring his “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund, specifically aimed to assist students of Black, African-American or African descent, under their umbrella. Editor in Chief Stella Bugbee is Leaving The Cut
Stella Bugbee, SVP and editor-in-chief of The Cut, has announced that she will leave her current role to become an editor-at-large for New York Magazine. In her new role, she will oversee editorial and journalism projects for both print and digital editions of the magazine, as well as develop a new flagship podcast. Bugbee has been at the Cut since 2012, and during that time helped shape the website into a media brand known for editorial excellence with over 14 million readers. [The Daily]

Supermodel devotees get ready: Apple TV + has announced the upcoming release of a docuseries which charts the rise of 90’s icons Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista. The Supermodels will take an in depth look at the personal stories of each woman, with Naomi posting to Instagram, “We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world.” [Vogue]
